Military Voters
In July of 2004, I wrote an essay on military voting. You can read the full text here. Fortunately, an Alabama state Senator read the essay agreed that something needed to be done to assist military personnel.
In the 2005 session of the Legislature, Senator Gerald Dial introduced Senate Bill 100 which would have addressed the issues I raised in my essay. This was not by chance though. Senator Dial had enlisted my assistance in drafting the bill. While the bill cleared its committee, it unfortunately never came up for a vote on the floor of the Senate before the end of the legislative session.
Now we are in 2006. The Legislature is back in session. Senator Dial has reintroduced the bill as Senate Bill 23. You can read the full text of the bill by clicking here.
If you agree that the Legislature needs to address the voting problems that are unique to military personnel and other Americans who reside overseas, then I urge you to contact your state Senator or state Representative and ask them to support Senator Dial's bill.
Also, let your friends and family know about this effort so that they too can contact their Senators and Representatives.
